Abstract

The study purpose to determine the learning mastery of learners in mathematical problem solving skills through Problem Based Learning (PBL) model and the problem solving ability of mathematical learners in the category of Adversity Quotient (AQ) that owned by students. Method of the research that writer use is research method combination with sequential explanatory type. The data collecting technique that writer use is triangulation technique by spreading questionnaire of Adversity Response Profile (ARP), giving test of mathematical problem solving ability, and conducting interview to selected subject. The population of this study is all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Tasikmalaya. The sample of the research was chosen by purposive sampling technique, so that the students were chosen in class VIII K, then the subjects of the study were six students from the selected research class based on the ARP questionnaire. Analysis of mathematical problem solving ability refers to four steps of problemsolving based on Polya, which is understanding problem, planning problem solving, executing problem solving plan, and re-examining. Data analysis is done with the following steps: data reduction, data presentation, verification, and conclusion. The results showed that: (1) the problem solving ability of mathematical learners through Problem Based Learning (PBL) model achieves completive learning; (2) the problem solving ability of learners with AQ quitter type is able to implement the step of understanding the problem. The problem solving ability of learners with AQ camper type is able to carry out the steps of understanding the problem, planning the problem solving, and implementing the problem solving. The problem solving ability of the learners with AQ climber type is capable to implementing the problem understanding steps, planning problem solving, executing problem-solving plan, and reexamining.
