Abstract

Mathematical reasoning ability consists of 4 indicators researched, they are drawing logical conclusions, estimating answers and process solutions, compiling valid arguments and compiling direct evidence. Mathematical reasoning skills need to be developed because it is the goal of giving mathematics subjects in accordance with the Education Unit Level Curriculum. This research aims to determine the improvement of students' mathematical reasoning abilities that are better between those who use learning with contextual approaches and those that use direct learning. In direct learning, students are less active in the learning process, teachers are more dominant in learning activities. Whereas in the contextual approach students are active and given the opportunity to build their own knowledge with the help of the teacher as a facilitator. Thus, the contextual approach is able to improve students' mathematical reasoning abilities. The research was conducted on tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Tasikmalaya in Mathematical Logic material. Two classes were taken as samples, the experimental class used a contextual approach and the control class used direct learning. The class X-3 was chosen as the experimental class and class X-8 as the control class. The random method is used to determine the sample class of the population of all tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Tasikmalaya. The instrument used was a test of students' mathematical reasoning abilities and the Likert model response scale
