Innovation and Green Entrepreneurship: Strengthening MSMEs through Productive Waste Management
Abstract
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in supporting the national economy, particularly in creating employment opportunities and promoting community-based economic independence. However, they face increasing challenges such as market competition, shifting consumer behavior, and growing environmental concerns. One relevant approach to address these challenges is green entrepreneurship, a business concept that integrates economic value with environmental sustainability. This community service program was conducted in Griya Asri Bangunjiwo Residential Area, aiming to enhance the awareness and understanding of local women’s groups about the importance of household waste management as part of a community-based green economy initiative. The activity employed a participatory socialization method, consisting of preparation, material presentation, simple demonstrations, and interactive discussions. The results show that, although the activity was still limited to the socialization and educational stages, there was a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and awareness regarding the reduce, reuse, recycle (3R) principles and the economic potential of household waste management. The participants’ high enthusiasm indicates readiness for further training in recycled product creation and green entrepreneurship development. Therefore, this activity serves as a foundational step toward empowering communities to build competitive and sustainable environment-based MSMEs. Furthermore, the program contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
