PENINGKATAN LITERASI BAHASA INGGRIS MELALUI PEMANFAATAN MEDIA DIGITAL BAGI SISWA SMAN 1 KAJEN, KABUPATEN PEKALONGAN

ABSTRAK

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi Bahasa Inggris siswa melalui integrasi media digital secara strategis di SMAN 1 Kajen, Kabupaten Pekalongan, Jawa Tengah. Pemanfaatan berbagai platform digital dipandang sebagai katalis penting dalam memperkaya pengalaman belajar, memperluas paparan linguistik siswa, serta mendorong kemandirian dalam pengembangan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris. Program yang dilaksanakan pada 7 Maret 2024 ini melibatkan 40 siswa dan 3 guru, serta menerapkan kombinasi metode berupa ceramah, demonstrasi, praktik langsung, dan diskusi interaktif. Intervensi berfokus pada pengenalan ragam alat pembelajaran digital, termasuk Grammarly, British Council, BBC Learning English, Duolingo, TalkEnglish, dan berbagai sumber daring lainnya. Temuan kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada motivasi belajar siswa, pemahaman mereka mengenai sumber belajar digital, serta kemampuan memanfaatkan aplikasi untuk memperkuat kompetensi listening, speaking, reading, dan writing. Para guru juga melaporkan peningkatan wawasan terkait integrasi teknologi dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Secara keseluruhan, program ini memberikan kontribusi nyata dalam pengembangan ekosistem literasi Bahasa Inggris berbasis digital di lingkungan sekolah.

ABSTRACT

This community service program aims to enhance students’ English literacy through the strategic integration of digital media at SMAN 1 Kajen, Pekalongan Regency, Central Java. The incorporation of digital platforms is recognized as a potential catalyst for enriching learning experiences, broadening students’ linguistic exposure, and fostering autonomous development of English language skills. The program, conducted on March 7, 2024, involved 40 students and 3 teachers and employed a combination of lectures, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and interactive discussions. The intervention centered on introducing a range of digital learning tools, including Grammarly, the British Council platform, BBC Learning English, Duolingo, TalkEnglish, and other online-based resources. Findings from the activity indicate substantial improvements in students’ learning motivation, their understanding of diverse digital learning sources, and their ability to utilize applications to strengthen competencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Participating teachers likewise reported gaining deeper insights into the pedagogical integration of technology for language instruction. Overall, this program demonstrates meaningful contributions to the development of a digitally supported English literacy ecosystem within the school context.
