Analisis Kemampuan Berpikir Lateral Matematika dalam Menyelesaikan Soal Open-Ended dengan Mempertimbangkan Tingkat Kepercayaan Diri
Abstract
The capacity for lateral mathematical thinking plays a crucial role in students' problem-solving abilities. Enhancing mathematical lateral thinking skills involves presenting open-ended problems that encourage alternative approaches. The confidence level of students becomes a significant factor when they tackle problems using diverse methods. This study aimed to assess students' mathematical lateral thinking skills in addressing open-ended questions, taking into account their self-confidence. Employing a qualitative approach, the study targeted students at SMP Terpadu Darussalam Rajapolah Tasikmalaya as the population. Four students were chosen as interview subjects, comprising two with high self-confidence and two with low self-confidence. The research utilized questionnaires and tests assessing lateral thinking abilities as instruments. The outcomes revealed that students with high self-confidence exhibited proficiency in at least three aspects of lateral thinking. Additionally, those in the high self-confidence category approached problems with care, focus, creativity, and confidence. On the other hand, students with low self-confidence demonstrated proficiency in a maximum of two aspects of lateral thinking. Furthermore, those in the low self-confidence category displayed less thoroughness, lack of focus, and diminished confidence in exploring alternative solutions. Additionally, they did not employ mathematical symbols when addressing the problems presented in the questions.
