Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze in depth the steps of solving Bransford &Stein problems and math anxiety in children with special needs type of visual impairment. The method used in this study is the explorative method. Data collection techniques consisted of filling out math anxiety questionnaires, problem-solving ability tests, and interviews. This research was conducted at the Special School of Yayasan Bahagia Kota Tasikmalaya. The subjects of the study were selected from blind type learners consisting of 3 people, 1 low vision and 2 totally blind. Data analysis techniques in this study used the model of Miles and Huberman (1984) with steps namely data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing and verification. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the level of mathematical anxiety found in children with special needs of the blind type is at high and low levels. For Bransford & Stein problem solving steps that can be taken by children with special needs, the type of visual impairment can be categorized as good, namely 4 out of 5 IDEAL steps can be fulfilled with good categories.

Keywords:   Bransford & Stein Problem Solving, Math Anxiety, and Children with Special Needs Type Blind.
