KETERKAITAN FILSAFAT MATEMATIKA DENGAN BENTUK GEOMETRI PADA SARANG LEBAH MADU

Abstract


This study explores the hexagonal structure of honeybee combs through the lens of geometric mathematics and the philosophy of mathematics. By conducting a comprehensive literature review and employing mathematical analysis, this research aims to elucidate the underlying reasons for bees' preference for hexagonal cells in their hives. The findings reveal that the hexagonal shape is the optimal configuration, maximizing cell area while minimizing material consumption. This conclusion is supported by mathematical calculations comparing the ratio of perimeter to area across various regular polygons. Furthermore, the hexagonal shape enables perfect tiling without gaps between cells. These results underscore the profound connection between natural phenomena and mathematical principles. The implications of this research extend to mathematics education, particularly in geometry, where honeybee combs can serve as a compelling and effective teaching tool. Honeycombs can be a compelling real-world example to introduce concepts of geometry, optimization, and the beauty of mathematics to students. Thus, this research is expected to contribute to increasing students' interest and understanding of mathematics.
