Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' mathematical problem solving abilities using Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning. The study population was seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Tasikmalaya. Samples were taken from randomly selected classes, namely class VII G and VII A. Data collection used was giving tests of mathematical problem solving abilities according to Polya. The statistical analysis used is hypothesis testing using the two-mean difference test, the t-test. Based on the results of the acquisition and processing of the data tested based on the requirements of statistical analysis, it can be concluded that the use of Think Pair Share cooperative learning has a positive effect on mathematical problem solving abilities, and there are several student errors in working on answers using Polya's problem solving steps including student difficulties to represent the problem in the answer to the problem so that the steps to understand the problem are not done, the habits of students in answering mathematical questions in the form of a description using the steps that they knew before that is only known, asked and answered, causing students difficulties at the stage of understanding and final at the stage of re-examining the results obtained, students find it difficult to apply other concepts in accordance with the related problems to confirm whether the answers obtained are appropriate or not.
