Abstract

The purpose of this study is to knowing the creative thinking process of high-ability, moderate, and low-ability students in problem solving mathematics based on Bransford and Stein steps. The research method used is Think alouds method with unstructured interview. The results of this study indicate that learners high caliber that is the preparation stage learners are able to identify problems and determine the objectives, the incubation stage learners paused to strategies, at the stage of illumination learners are able to resolve the problem in accordance with the strategy that has been made, and at the stage of verification learners are able to solve problems in different ways. Learners are capable of being that is at the preparation stage learners are able to identify problems and determine the objectives, the incubation stage learners still long enough to think about the idea of settlement and little difficulty in writing the steps of completion, at the stage of illumination learners little difficulty in solving the problems, and stage verification of learners only write conclusions without solving problems in different ways. Learners of their poor performance at the preparation stage learners are able to identify problems and determine the objectives, the incubation stage learners are silent so long to think of the idea of the settlement and have difficulty in writing the steps of completion, at the stage of illumination learners have difficulty in solving the problems properly and not understand the purpose of solving problems that are not complete and clear, at the stage of verification of learners difficulties in re-examine the results so that the conclusions are not clear and learners are not able to resolve the problem in a different way.
