Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation between motivation and independence of mathematical learning with students' mathematical problem solving abilities through a problem based learning model. The method in this study is the correlational method. The population in this study were all students of class X one of the high schools in the City of Tasikmalaya which amounted to 346 people. The sample in this study was obtained by consideration techniques and random techniques, the selected class was class X IIS 2 which used a problem based learning model consisting of 37 students. The instruments used in this study were the test questions of students' mathematical problem solving abilities, students' learning motivation questionnaires and students' learning independence questionnaires. The data analysis technique used to test the hypothesis is the correlation analysis test. The results of the study of the correlation between motivation and independence of learning with mathematical problem solving abilities through a problem based learning learning model are             meaning that correlation is very strong among indicators of problem solving, namely understanding problems, planning problem solving strategies , carrying out calculations, and reexamining the truth of results with independence and motivation.
