Abstract

This study aims to find out which one is better improvement of student’ mathematical problem solving abilities whoselearning uses the cooperative learning model tyoe Mind Mapping through inquiry strategies with direct learning. In addition, this study aims to find out how students’ attitudes towards learning mathematics by using cooperative learning model type Mind Mapping trought inquiry strategies. This research was conducted on sixth grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Tasikmalaya in the school year 2012/2013 in the subject matter of the circle, the research method implemented was the experimental method. The study sample was chosen randomly or randomly as much as two classes, namely as the experimental class and the control class. Which was chosen as class the experiment is class VIII G with 33 students. In the learning process using the cooperative learning model type Mind Mapping through inquiry strategies. Then those who were selected as the control class were class VIII with the same number of students as the experimental class of 33 people. In the learning process using the direct learning model. The instruments used were mathematical problem solving tests given to the experimental class and the control class after the learning activities were completed, and the attitude questionnaire given was only to the experimental class. The data analysis technique used to test hypotheses is a test of the two average differences. Based on research and data analysis shows that the increase in mathematical problem solving abilities of students using the cooperative learning model Mind Mapping type trough inquiry strategies is better than direct learning. Besides that attitude students towards learning mathematics by using cooperative learning type Mind Mapping trough inquiry strategies positive.
