Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical modelling ability of students in SPLDV material reviewed from mathematical resilience with high, medium, and low categories. This study uses qualitative research with an exploratory method. The research subjects were selected from 3 students of class VIII-A SMP Negeri 8 Tasikmalaya based on the results of a questionnaire that was consistent in each category and the results of the mathematical modelling ability test questions that met all the indicators regardless of whether the answer was right or wrong. The data collection technique consisted of distributing mathematical resilience questionnaires, mathematical modelling ability test questions, and unstructured interviews. The research instruments used include mathematical resilience questionnaires and mathematical modelling ability test questions. Based on the results of the study, students with high mathematical resilience (S-11) were able to meet all indicators of mathematical modelling ability and solve both SPLDV problems in sequence, with high persistence, confidence, and curiosity. Students with moderate resilience (S-2) can meet all indicators of mathematical modelling ability, solve problems systematically, but there is little mistake in question number one. S-2 has a spirit that goes up and down when solving problems. Students with low resilience (S-6) can meet all indicators of mathematical modelling ability, but S-6 makes some mistakes in both problems when performing calculation operations, reasoning, and incompleteness in the results of the presented solutions.
