Abstract

Problem solving is one aspect of high-level thinking, the meaning of it is the capacity to be a high level of information that exists, evaluates, has metacognitive awareness and has problem solving abilities. Problem solving also means student’s ability to solve or solve mathematical problems in the form of non-routine questions, that is, problems that are not easily achieved immediately. Student’s ability to solve problems is seen from the steps of understanding problems, planning solutions, calculating and checking results. The steps of this ability can be developed in the classroom, one of them is by applying the Problem Based Learning model. The model is relevant because in learning there is involvement in preparing students as a self directed problem solver, encouraging students to find problems, examining the nature of the problem: inquiry and investigation of performance and question and answer in testing the weaknesses and excellence of solutions and reflection. In problem based learning uses real life problems as a context for students to build knowledge and essential concepts from subject matter.
